Neurotheraphy

Indian Neurotherapy (NT) is an astoundingly effective, largely non-invasive, simple and powerful bodywork therapy, emanating from ancient India and rooted in Tibetan medicine which first hit the newspaper headlines in Britain and Canada a few years ago.

Originally born in India, these therapies travelled to Tibet and later to China.  Transcripts of these the theories which underlie this therapy are difficult to trace, as these therapies were initially transmitted orally – it was much later that the Chinese invented paper and an oral tradition made way for a written tradition.

The basis of INT (Indian Neurotherapy) is a belief that all diseases stem from blockages or congestion (due to a variety of reasons) of the nerves (Nadi) in the nervous system.  INT is a way of accessing and releasing blockages or congestion in a diseased body.  INT is a rehabilitative bodywork therapy, which works by stimulating the blood supply and nerve conduction to relevant organs, so as to redress the normal physiological functioning of the appropriate gland, organ or body system.  INT utilizes the technique of “Indirect Stimulation” i.e. pressure is applied on the arms and/or legs of the patient to stop the flow of blood to a specific region of the body for a particular duration of time (6 seconds) and then released, so that blood flows with a greater force to the correlated nerves, glands, organs.

By applying mild pressure at specific points on the limbs for specific time periods, “gain of function” for the relevant organ or system is seen in a relatively short period of time.

Historically, in the remote villages of India, it was commonplace to see the house nurse relieve ailments like stomach cramps by standing on the arms and legs of the patient.

Indian Neurotherapy was traditionally carried out in this manner, but in the West hands are used with equal effect, as this makes the patient feel more at ease.  Pressure is adjusted according to age, sex, and tolerance of the patient.  Usually the patient experiences a pleasant sensation as pressure is applied to certain parts of the body, often immediately relieving distress or discomfort.

The Principles

The nadis or nerve channels according to this practice, are centred around the navel (in ancient times primitive people didn’t have the wonderful, modern imaging equipment we have today to explain more greater precision exactly what INT was impacting, so the Nadis, or Nerve Channel  pressure therapy theory became popular and is still taught generationally in this way in communities all over India.  However, the more likely target for Indian Neurotherpy is actually the lymph nodes.  Lymph nodes are body organs (not glands) spread throughout your body. Their function is to filter out all the dead bacteria, viruses, and other dead tissue from the lymphatic fluid and eliminate it from the body. They are also the place where the white blood cells (lymphocytes) spend much of their time. When the immune system is activated they begin producing large numbers of lymphocytes which causes them to swell. There are about 500-700 lymph nodes spread throughout the body.

It makes perfect sense that if manual pressure is applied on the muscles, underlying vascular and lymphatic system that one would have a significant increase in fluid movement in and between the fascias of muscles, the lymphatic system and the circulatory system.  This not only secures better blood flow, it also secures a manual stimulation of the immune system, leading to better oxygenation of organs and systems, and initiation of systemic detoxification, which is organ specific!

This theory of stimulation of Nadis also arises from the fact that the umbilical cord is the first supply of life to the developing foetus.  “Nabhi diagnosis” is the main diagnostic tool utilised in this therapy – which requires palpating the nabhi points for temperature variations, tension, pain on pressure, reactive sensations and general tightness.  The nabhi points are closely linked to the digestive organs.  One ailment, which is not recognised in Western allopathic medicine is the “dislocation of the navel”, which can lead to severe systemic ailments.  Like many traditional Indian folk medicine systems, initial INT procedures involves setting the navel (pressure applied to abdominal region around / on navel), so as to correct any misalignment.  This is then followed by the focal point of Indian Neurotherapy, which is to stimulate the blood supply/nerve pathways/ lymph flow in the relevant areas of hypo-functioning organs (e.g. liver, stomach, pancreas, etc.).

Examples of Indian Neurotherapy (INT) protocols include the treatment of:

1) Gall Bladder – INT treatment increases the blood supply to the right hypochondriac region of the abdominal cavity. Thus, it stimulates the gall bladder, the right half of the transverse colon, and the upper part of the ascending colon, all of which lie in that region. They normally use it for stimulating the gall bladder and related digestive disorders. Bile has both antiseptic and laxative properties.

2) Spleen – NT treatment increases the blood supply to the left hypochondriac region of the abdominal cavity. Thus, it stimulates the Spleen and the left half of the transverse colon, and the beginning part of the descending colon, all of which lie in that region. They normally use it for curing disorders of the digestive system, such as a sluggish colon etc. This treatment is also used to stimulate the spleen to produce white blood cells in the body, to combat viral infections.

3) Liver – This treatment stimulates the middle part of the ascending colon and also alleviates pains along the horizontal line of the right side of the navel. Pain in this area is found to be associated with disorders related to poor liver function.

These organs are also located in the Muldhara Region of the body. According to ancient Vedic philosophy this Region is involved in the physical and spiritual energy centres of the body, [Christians refer to this as the heart or the “belly” – John 7:38 NIV, 1984 reads: “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” / New Living Translation, 2007: “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ New American Standard Bible, 1995″He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ King James Version, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water”. As this is the emotional and subtle energy centre it is seen in INT as the point of integration of the mind and body; hence also the success in the treatment of depression.  From a Western anatomical point of view, more than 95% of the body’s serotonin is produced in the bowels, so if any manual therapeutic programme impacts the gut, one will see better neuro-integration.

HOW INDIAN NEUROTHERAPY MIGHT BENEFIT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?

Indian Neurotherapy reaffirms that by treating the digestive system, we address the root cause of most disease conditions.  Consequently advice on diet, lifestyle, exercise and quiet times to replenish and rest are valuable adjuncts to this therapy.

Here, more than 400 children are receiving daily Indian Neuro-therapy offered by a committed team of men, who work with different children in small segments throughout the day.  With extreme poverty facing these men and the families they serve, conditions that mainstream medicine has given up on are successfully treated!

These children and adults are neurologically compromised, and their disabilities range from:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Autism
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Squint eyes
  • Paralysis
  • MS
  • MND
  • Poisoning resulting in central and peripheral nervous system damage
  • Deafness
  • Organ disease and failure
  • Genetic mutations leading to deformity, blindness, epilepsy, etc.

Here we have seen squint eyes correct in ONE 15 minute non-invasive, treatment session, children who couldn’t walk started standing and walking, cognitive gains were made far about what ANYONE could ever have imagined.
